Google Business Profile: Avoid Duplicate Content in Posts
Google is notorious for being vague about its algorithm, but every once in a while they pull through. The company recently added a line to its Google Business Profile (GBP) guidelines that provides guidance about avoiding spammy content when using the tool.
The line “Duplicate photos, posts, videos, and logos” was added to the list of content users should avoid when posting on GBP. Businesses sometimes post the same content to social media at different times of the day or on different days of the week, all to ensure that relevant information is seen in their audience’s feed. But Google’s platform does not work in the same way. Users can see numerous posts at the same time on a business’s profile, so duplicate content does not have the same benefits.
Even adding a logo to every image or posting visually similar images, like a daily menu, can get flagged as duplicate content. It’s best to be mindful of GBP content to avoid having content removed or being penalized by Google.

Tip of the Month
Use internal links to create a good user experience. Internal links are hyperlinks that point to other pages within the same site. Like external links, which point to pages outside the site, internal linking is important for SEO. Google follows links on pages to discover content on the site and distribute link value. But internal links are also a helpful user experience tool.
Imagine going to a website and there are no links on the page. Your only option would be to leave the site and continue on a different site. That’s a terrible experience! Including internal links keeps users on the site as they click through pages that contain relevant content. This builds trust and makes users want to return. Not only is it a positive experience, but also returning visitors are more likely to convert.
Internal links have an impact on user experience in another way — Linking to internal pages creates context. In blog posts and static pages, internal linking can provide explanations of concepts that may not need to be included in the main content.
For example, an article about how dolphins communicate mentions how smart dolphins are. This is part of the explanation of how dolphins communicate but is not the main theme. A link to another article about dolphin intelligence helps the user understand more about how they communicate and provides a better user experience.
